Clearifications On JAMB 2016/17 Admission Checking Portal That Was Enabled Recently

1) NO NAME HAS BEEN UPLOADED:
And no name will be uploaded until after August
26th. It will be recalled that Jamb convened a
technical committee meeting between 22nd
August and 26th August to cross-check the
admission list of various institutions (JAMB
CONVENES ADMISSION MEETING). This simply
means that Jamb is trying to keep to her word
and ensure that all schools abide by this new
decree. So presently, no university's list has
been screened, even universities that have
released their lists are still at a risk.

2)THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS POSTING:
We had to switch this to point two so as to be
able to hammer on the importance. Jamb has
cancelled the posting (JAMB CANCELS
ADMISSION LISTS SENT TO SCHOOLS
fullgists.com Once Posted It!) and schools have
already started their screening so that ship has
sailed, don't worry, it's not coming back again,
but it could still yet be useful.

3) ONLY NAMES SENT BY INSTITUTIONS WILL
BE UPLOADED:
Please do not assume that Jamb still has
anything to do with your admission right now. As
was stated clearly in one of the circulars made
available to the public by Jamb, the
responsibility of admitting prospective
candidates lies solely with the administrators of
your school, that is, the school senate and all
what not. So if your 'Uncle who is a prof' tells
you that Jamb is now admitting candidates, well
just mark that out as a blatant lie. Which leads
to the most important fact...

4) UNIVERSITIES THAT ARE YET TO COMMENCE
THEIR SCREENING MIGHT JUST USE THE JAMB
POSTING:
Let's be honest, there is no way any school can
organise her screening and finish it before the
deadline set by Jamb which is two days from
now. Yes we  Said So!! So it is not
impossible for some schools to just adopt the
list and forego the expenses attached to the
screening. For all those who do not know, this
particular mode of screening requires a lot of
funds and expertise, school portals have to
brought down and reconstructed before they
can be able to successfully screen documents
which are uploaded to their sites, not to
mention the time and delay it could cause. So if
your school is yet to release their screening
form and going by what the new Jamb Registrar
said then they might just use the Jamb posting
(JAMB ORDERS UNIVERSITIES TO PROVIDE
ADMISSION LISTS) and avoid all other
formalities. So aspirants are generally adviced to
hold their horses and avoid holding their breath
because at the end of the day, Jamb might just
be bluffing, this isn't the first time. But the
recent sacking of the Jamb registrar shows that
the Minister means business and for the first
time in forever, we might just have a competent
board.

JAMB Will Not Add To Or Remove From Lists Of Candidates Sent By Institutions – JAMB Boss Post

Oloyede during the ongoing technical meeting with stake

Change of Course And Institution Deadline Will Not Be Extended - JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that there will be no extension on the deadline for 2016 JAMB change of Course and institution.

This was disclosed by the board's Head of Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

He advised all candidates who wish to change from one institution to another or from one course to another to do so before the Friday May 13 deadline.

“We have given enough time to candidates, who desire to change their course or institution, to do so in order to avoid any rush.

“The sales of forms will, officially, be closed on Friday, May 13, and we do not anticipate any extension." He stated.

Meanwhile, all candidates who wish that we help them effect any change on their choice of course and institution should note that they have only today Thursday 12th May, 2016 to apply for it as we may not be able to attend to them after today.

Why The New JAMB Admission Policy Is Not As Bad As It Seems

Like we promised, we have been following the new jamb admission policy and have been trying to ascertain the rationale and criteria used by JAMB in determining the eligibility of candidates to participate in their choice schools' post-UTME this year.

Our findings have shown that the policy may not really be as bad as it seems.

JAMB arrived at this new policy basically by considering the number of candidates that applied for the courses approved by NUC in the various schools and the number of applicants per institution.

For instance, statistics has it that, a whopping 607,330 candidates applied to study just in the top ten universities.

This only implies that the carrying capacities of these universities have been outweighed by the number of applicants.

In other to give such candidates that may not be absorbed by these universities opportunity of gaining admission this year, there is need to re-distribute these candidates to other universities that have less than their carrying capacities based on scores and catchment areas.

The import of this is that only the top scorers (say about 20%) in a particular course may be considered eligible to participate in the Post-UTME of their choice institutions. Especially in those institutions that have more candidates than their carrying capacities could contain.

So for candidates who scored the required cut-off mark and yet not eligible to participate in their schools’ post-UTME you may need to consider the following;

1.The probability that you are in the top 20% in your chosen course.

2.If your choice in institution is under your state’s catchment.

So it can be deduced that the main aim for this new admission policy is to balance the admission process. In order to create an almost balanced platform for candidates which will give them a better chance of gaining admission this year.

This is because if JAMB was to go with the status quo, the admission will be partial and greatly tilted to one side and will also disfavour many.

The affected candidates like we gathered will soon be notified by JAMB on what to do next.

New Policy: JAMB, to notify candidates of new school/course selection - JAMB Staff

A preliminary investigation carried out by Myschool, through a JAMB Staff, has revealed that the board will notify candidates of the new school/course they will be posted, to adopt the new policy of candidate distribution.

According to the JAMB Staff, "Some of the candidates who scored more than 200 and are being rejected for some courses, happened based on the individual cut-off marks set by the institution for those particular courses. In summary too many students applied for those courses and the University can only admit a fraction of the candidates who applied. JAMB will therefore notify candidates of appropriate Universities/Course they can apply for."

It is therefore our deduction that these rejected candidates will be sent to study the same courses in other Universities of lesser competition. This policy also ensures that best candidates in the country are admitted, even if it means posting them to other institutions.

The new policy to evenly distribute candidates by JAMB has met heavy criticism based on the fact that forms were sold for candidates to Change their Course/Institution. If JAMB knew they would effect such a policy, they should never have sold Change of Course/institution forms. This makes us believe that it is quite possible that Change of Course/institution Candidates will get preferential treatment in this new policy.

JAMB Candidates Protest Manipulation of Test Scheme, Call For Removal Of Registrar Ojerinde

Candidates of the Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB)
examination trooped to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) campus on
Tuesday afternoon to protest against the management of the
institution and the registrar of JAMB, Professor Dibu Ojerinde.

The students, who were already preparing to sit for post-JAMB tests in
UNILAG expressed shock at discovering their institutions of choice
had been arbitrarily changed in their candidate records without their
consent, and they called for the matter to be probed, and Professor
Ojerinde removed.

The protesters explained that JAMB’s action has randomly distributed
them to schools they did not choose, and is forcing them into random
schools against their individual wishes.

The protesters included the affected candidates, who said their records
of choice schools have been arbitrarily altered by JAMB, some parents
and legal practitioners, who have threatened to bring legal action
against the Board.

They also criticized the University of Lagos, which raised the cut-off
score for qualifying to take its post-JAMB test, accusing the institution
of arbitrarily changing JAMB’s cut-off score to dictate its own.

“JAMB said it is 180,” one of the affected candidates explained. “Even
if UNILAG said it wants 200, it might be understandable, but what is
250?”

One of the parents who came to the protest pointed out that his had
repeated the JAMB test for the third year because he only wants to
attend UNILAG.

“He rejected an offer from another institution in the last year’s season.
How then can JAMB suddenly change his choice institution when he’s
about to take post-JAMB test again in UNILAG?” he asked.

Asked another parent, “How can JAMB by its own decision change my
daughter’s school to Maiduguri where [Boko Haram leader] Shekau will
probably be the VC?”

An activist who led the students in the protest, Dr. Kayode Owolabi,
threatened to sue JAMB over the action. He accused the Board of
deceiving and defrauding the students over sales of “Change of
Institution and Course forms” only to later disregard their choices and
distribute them randomly into schools they did not choose.

“I opened my record online and found a notice that my institution of
choice has been changed by, single-handedly by JAMB,” one of the
candidates explained.

Jamb Warns Institutions to admit Interim Joint Admission Board (IJMB) candidates into 100 level instead of 200 level

Still based on the outcome of the Meeting held yesterday by the Joint
Admission and Matriculation Board and other stake holders, all
institutions have been warned against regularization of admission.

According to the JAMB boss, this is to ensure that our institutions
complete their admissions within the period of admissions exercise”.

He also frowned at situations where by institutions admit Interim Joint
Admission Board (IJMB) candidates into 100 level instead of 200 level.

He stated that henceforth all institutions should admit such candidates
into 200 level and not 100 level.

JAMB Directs All Institutions To Conclude 2015 Admission Processes Before Oct 31st

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Following the decisions
reached in the policy meeting held today has mandated institutions to
conclude all admission processes on or before October 31st, 2015.

It was also decided that the 2015/2016 admission would be 60:40
ration in favour of science courses to Art courses and ration 70:30 for
courses in Technology and non technology courses respectively.

This simply implies that science candidates stand a better chance of
getting admitted this year than their arts counterparts.

Similarly, candidates who chose technology related courses will stand
a better chance of getting admitted than their counterparts going for
non-technology courses

Post-UTME To Be Scrapped Soon - JAMB Boss

According to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation
Board (JAMB) , Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the post-UTME exams conducted
by higher institutions will soon come to an end with the introduction
of CBT Mode in UTME.

He mentioned that following the introduction of CBT, examination
malpractice as well, will be completely eradicated with time.

Post-UTME test was introduced because of the level of malpractice
that trailed the UTME examinations in the past. However, the JAMB
boss is of the opinion that when examination malpractice in UTME is
completely eradicated with the introduction of CBT there will definitely
be no need for post-UTME in higher institutions.

He further stressed that the CBT Mode was also introduced to prepare
candidates to face the academic challenges in higher institutions.
